When its cooling system began to fail, a Tucson hotel used $6,800 in rebates from the TEP Commercial Energy Solutions program to upgrade to a high-efficiency water-cooled chiller. By purchasing a more-efficient unit, the hotel is estimated to save more than $45,000 in electricity costs, cut 336 tons of emissions and save 171,950 gallons of water. The increased cost of the high-efficiency chiller will pay back quickly in energy savings and the continued bill savings will boost the hotel's bottom line.

Industrial
Installing one variable speed drive (VSD) on a 200-hp irrigation pump will save a TEP industrial customer an estimated $250,000 in electricity costs over the equipment lifetime. The Commercial Energy Solutions program provided a $15,000 rebate to reduce the project's upfront cost. In addition to saving 4.1 million kWh of electricity, the VSD will reduce wear on the pump. By reducing electricity demand, the project will save 945,200 gallons of water and 1,860 tons of carbon emissions.

K-12 School
A Tucson school received $7,375 in rebates from the TEP Commercial Energy Solutions program to replace 59 inefficient metal halide lights with T5 high output fluorescent lamps. The new lighting will reduce the school's energy use by an estimated 1.2 million kWh over the lifetime of the equipment and will save $75,650 in electricity costs. By reducing energy use, this project will cut carbon emissions by 558 tons and save 238,410 gallons of water.

Office
A local office building owner received $7,500 in rebates from the TEP Commercial Energy Solutions program for installing three variable-speed drives (VSDs) to optimize power consumption of facility motors. The equipment will save an estimated $78,000 in electricity costs over its lifetime. Cutting energy use will benefit the environment by saving 576 tons of CO2 and more than 290,000 gallons of water.

Process Industrial
TEP Commercial Energy Solutions paid more than $40,000 in rebates to an industrial customer for a lighting system upgrade. The facility installed T8 high output lighting and LED exit signs to improve equipment efficiency. The customer added occupancy sensors to ensure the lights were only on when needed and installed daylight controls to maximize use of natural light. These measures are expected to save 6.8 million kWh over the equipment lifetime, which will cut associated carbon emissions by 3,100 tons and save 1.6 million gallons of water. This energy efficiency project is projected to save the customer more than $420,000 in electricity costs over the lifetime of the equipment installed.

Restaurant
A recent lighting retrofit will save a Tucson restaurant more than $20,000 in electricity costs over the lifetime of the equipment installed. TEP Commercial Energy Solutions paid $1,355 in rebates to offset the cost of upgrading the overhead fluorescent lights from T12 to T8 lamps with electronic ballasts. The restaurant also replaced the inefficient exit signs with LED models and removed some unnecessary lamps. The lighting project will save the restaurant on electricity costs while ensuring the quality lighting needed to run operations and maintain the desired ambience.

Retail
A Tucson-area retail building installed high efficiency lighting equipment with the help of $21,150 in rebates from the TEP Commercial Energy Solutions program. The retail business is estimated to save more than $236,000 in electricity costs over the lifetime of equipment. The environmental benefits include 886,675 gallons of water saved and 1,745 tons of CO2 diverted, which is equivalent to removing 84 cars from the road.

State Government
Lighting retrofits at a state government facility in Tucson received more than $150,000 in rebates from the TEP Commercial Energy Solutions program. The high-efficiency lighting, including 233 T5 high output lamps, is estimated to save more than 38 million kWh in electricity - enough to power 3,600 Tucson area homes for a year. The measures will cut electricity costs by $2.3 million over the lifetime of the equipment. The reduction in associated generation will save an estimated 8.9 million gallons of water and 17,500 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. This is equivalent to removing 2,620 cars from the road.
